Shri Vile Parle Kelavani Mandal is a Public Charitable Trust registered under the Society’s Registration Act and Bombay Public Trust Act. From its humble beginnings in 1934, when it took over the Rashtriya Shala, a school established in 1921 in the wake of the National Movement, the Mandal today has grown into a big educational complex imparting high-level education to more than 50,000 students.

The ethos of the Mandal, is marked by patriotic fervor, selfless service and a spirit of indigenous enterprise. These values permeate all the institutions set up by the Mandal and are the guiding principles for all of them. After beginning its journey in the early 1930s SVKM has blossomed into an educational colossus that has attained national recognition in multiple streams of higher education. With a strong guiding philosophy of providing education to all levels of the student community along with creating a feeling of bonding and commitment amongst academic and nonacademic employees. SVKM has mastered the art of being able to transform itself into a close knit family and at the same time help its students to attain all-round development, be employable and achieve success.

Over the past 85 years, the Mandal has developed a large educational complex in Vile Parle, in Suburban Mumbai and has spread its wings to metro cities like, Bangalore, Hyderabad, Chandigarh, Ahmedabad, Navi Mumbai, etc., SVKM today is proud of some of the finest educational institutes in the country like NMIMS deemed to be University, N.M. College of Commerce and Economics, Mithibai College, D.J. Sanghvi College of Engineering, Bhagubhai Mafatlal Polytechnic – to name a few. It has also in its family schools from Nursery to Secondary, Jr. College providing ICSE or IB, IGCSE curriculum or CBSE curriculum. With a strong vision and passion for being the pioneers of the modern education system, all SVKM institutes are state of the art, with ever expanding facilities and infrastructure.

From its beginning with the Swadeshi Movement, the Mandal has now grown into an educational foundation promoting global thinking consistent with national interest and promoting the values, professionalism, social sensitivity and dynamic entrepreneurship.

Shri Vile Parle Kelavani Mandal’s (SVKM) Dwarkadas J. Sanghvi College of Engineering (DJSCE), was established in the year 1994. In the span of 29 years, DJSCE has come a long way and has made its impact felt not only in the country, but also abroad. DJSCE is an Autonomous Institution, granted autonomy by the University Grants Commission (UGC) for a period of 10 years, starting from the A.Y. 2019-20 till 2028-29. The National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) has accredited DJSCE with a CGPA of 3.18 out of 4, i.e., with an “A” Grade for a period of 5 years with effect from 18th of October 2019.

The college runs 12 undergraduate programmes, 3 post graduate programmes and 3 Ph.D. courses for the A.Y. 2021-22, all permanently affiliated to the University of Mumbai. All the eligible undergraduate programs are accredited by the National Board of Accreditation. Students of the college have always performed exceedingly well in national and globally competent multinational companies and also in the universities in India and abroad as they pursue their higher education.

The favourable location of the institute in Mumbai along with state-of-the-art facilities and distinguished faculty has been a nurturing ground for students of high academic capabilities. 17,825 sq. meters (1,90,192 sq. feet) of spacious classrooms, well-equipped laboratories and workshops, new age computer facilities and a well-stocked library provide a stimulating educational environment within the College. The College has attracted qualified and experienced faculty members with more additions in the years to come. Continuing with the commitment of providing students with better infrastructural facilities; the College has been adding new equipments and furniture. These continued efforts of the parent trust, the faculty and our students have propelled the college into the top echelons of Quality Engineering Colleges with an 'A' grade certificate from the Directorate of Technical Education, Maharashtra State. DJSCE is also consistently rated amongst the top 10 Private Engineering Colleges of the country by India Today and amongst top 100 Engineering Colleges of our country by various other ranking institutions.

Students of the college, continue to bag top positions in the merit list - retaining the status of the college amongst Maharashtra’s premier colleges. The college used to be consistently rated amongst the top two colleges (often achieving first position) in the academic results at the 1st year examinations (Sem. I & II) of the University of Mumbai, before the autonomous status was achieved.

The College has always been able to attract various reputed recruiters for campus placement. In the academic year 2020-21, more than 86 recruiters visited our campus for placement. Additionally, various active students’ chapters of IEEE, IIChE, CSI, ISME, IETE, BMSE, ACM, SAE India, RAS and ISHARE make DJSCE a very vibrant place for learning. In addition, different students’ clubs like, DJS E-Cell, DJS Aura, DJS Lit, DJS Beats, DJS Codestars, DJS Strike, DJS Express, Google Developer Students Club, DJS and the NSS unit of the college add value to student activities, ensuring good exposure. Various professional events like conferences, faculty training & development programmes, workshops, seminars and other value added programs are organized continuously to enrich teaching-learning environment at the College. The Innovation centre of the college and the in-house technical journal support faculty and students in coming up with quality research publications and novel projects. The E-cell of the college promotes entrepreneurial skills and initiatives among students through various events.

The department of Computer Engineering was established in 2001 to cater to the growing demands of technically sound professionals in Computer Technology. This program is accredited by National Board of Accreditation with effect from the Academic Year 2012-13.Started with 30 seats in 2001. Intake increased to 60 in 2002-03. Intake increased to 120 in 2011-12. Intake increased to 180 in 2021-22. ME started in 2012 – 13 with intake 18. Ph.D. started in 2015-16 with 10 seats. The department has qualified eminent faculty with the state of an art infrastructure to facilitate efficient teaching learning process. The department is headed by Dr. (Mrs.) Meera Narvekar. Currently, there are 24 faculty members in computer department. The department has eight well equipped computer labs with latest computer systems, licensed software & open source software. All classrooms & labs are well-resourced with amenities such as OHP, LCD projector, internet facility, scanner and printers. The department has consistently achieved 100% results in academics with university toppers. Also, 100% placement of final year students is done in national & multinational companies like Microsoft, Google, Morgan Stanley, JP Morgan, Cap Gemini, Accenture, E&Y, TCS and more.

In the modern era, the world is moving towards efficient improvements and productivity using technology. As more and more jobs are being automated, IT department is at par with the changes going around in the world and helps students to gain a strong foothold in the ever-growing modern world. Having the foresight to consider the growth of technology, back in 1999 D.J. Sanghvi college of engineering introduced a new discipline of Information Technology with intake of 60 seats.Currently the intake has increased to 180 in Academic Year:2022-2023.
This program is accredited by the National Board of Accreditation (NBA) till A.Y. 2022-2023 (i.e., till 30th June 2023). Information technology is the study, design, development,implementation, support or management of computer-based information systems particularly software applications and computer hardware. In other words, IT deals with the use of computers and software to provide a new tangent all together in the technology, to convert, store, protect, process, transmit and retrieve information, securely. To keep pace with the current technological trends and to sharpen their skills, faculty development workshops are carried out regularly.
During this four-year program, the emphasis is on the technology itself more than on the information it conveys. A highly skilled, dynamic, and technologically sound faculty endows the IT department. IT students have striven hard to achieve many awards and laurels for the college and many of the alumnus work for big MNCs.
The IT department boasts of having two student committees, namely DJ-CSI and INIT.AI. These committees aim to not only give students opportunities to advance academically but also to hone their overall skills. DJCSI bagged the award of the best CSI chapter in India for the academic years 2017-19.
